Pablo Echaurren and Claudia Salaris have formed the most complete collection of books, newspapers and posters of Futurism. The collection also contains counterculture publications and the vintage electric bass – the instrument that revolutionized the sound of an era. The collections, together with a large body of works by Matta and Echaurren himself, consist of a puzzle which reflects the life and passions of its founders. Looking at the variety of works, the foundation is divided into five areas, five fingers as represented in its logo, bearing the initials of its promoters in its palm. Between the lines of this hand one can also see suggestions of twentieth century history, such as the Boîte-en-valise, the Duchamp’s original Matta -Rebus and other artists which make up a collection in progress.

In the decades around 1900, postcards were Twitter, e-mail, Flickr, and Facebook, all wrapped into one. A postcard craze swept the world, as billions of cards were bought and mailed, or just pasted into albums. Many famous artists turned to the new medium, but one of the great pleasures of postcards is how some of the most beautiful and interesting cards were made by artists whose names we barely know. This unprecedented exhibition traces how big historical and cultural themes of the modern age—enthralling, exciting, and sometimes disturbing—played out on the postcard’s tiny canvas… (read more)
